In our effort to service you better, three Departments, have joined together. Indian River County Water System, Sewer System, and Solid Waste Management have merged to form Indian River County Utilities.

Indian River County Utilities number one priority is to assure the public health and safety of our water supply. There are three basic parts to the water supply---source, treatment, and distribution.

Public Utilities are government agencies that supply basic needs such as electricity, gas or water to the public. Public utilities take their water supply from a natural source ( a river, lake, or aquifer). Some sources require treatment of water to remove impurities. The utility then delivers the water to homes and businesses for use.

Indian River County Utilities drinking water production starts with safe and reliable water located deep beneath the ground. "Groundwater" comes from the Floridan aquifer, a thick sequence of porous limestone underneath the Earth's surface which spreads throughout most the state. This water-rich source is considered to be one of the largest freshwater aquifers in the nation and provides the safest and highest quality water available.
